Once again, the beginning of this story was May 11th post if your intrested. Again here's a quick recap:

I tried my hand at poker at a Vegas work trip while I was in college, got hooked. Bought a bunch of books. Studied.  Played after work at some local card rooms. Opened an online account with Party Poker.  Came up with a game plan.  Put a $100 on the site.  Luckily had a solid start.  Built my game on $10 sng's. Won a multi. Hooked up with another poker enthusiest and began spliting profits (Most of which were my big cashes at the time). My partner won a seat to the WSOP Main Event on his own. I then won my own Main Event seat right before it started. Both myself and my partner were able to get  many days of play and cash the 2006 Main Event.  I was knocked out about 700th/9000 for about $17K and T_Dawgonu cashed about 300/9000 for around 35K! By the end of the year I had won my 7th and 8th decent multi and most importantly had my 1st baby on the way!! I guess my ego kicked in a little and I celebrated by using the money to pay off my wife's SUV and buying myself a brand NEW 2007 CORVETTE!! :)

The baby was due in early December, but of course with our luck wasn't the case.  It was around October 2007, and I just went to visit my wife at her Open House in Long Beach, CA area (She's an Elementary School Teacher). Of course following the event I shot over to the Bicycle Club to enter one of their Big October tournaments that night. It was the first time I had a chance to play live in many months and was really looking forward to the tournament. I think it was a $500 buyin and I started off pretty strong. I was playing great and making all the right plays.  I remember it was also a Bounty tourney were you get money if you knock someone out. I had been playing a few hours and had already knocked out a couple players and it was getting close to getting "in the money". I was involved in a big hand allin and won a huge pot!! YEEEAAHH!!!  Sounds great right? That's when I heard the worst noise in the world. It was my cell phone ringing at 11pm. My wife wouldn't call me to bother me in a tourney unless it was really important. CRAP CRAP CRAP. I answered, and all I hear is my wife freaking out and crying and trying to tell me her water had just broke like 8 weeks early!! :(

I looked down at my chips which were now table leader going into the money in a big tourney and the first live evnt I had played in a while and I knew what I had to do.....sigh. I gathered up my belongings, stood up, and announced I had to go meet my wife at a hospital in Orange,CA about a hour or so away. Looking back I shoulda made a deal with the table somehow to dump my chips in some legal way in turn for something, but at the time I was scared to death that we might lose the baby and my wife's health was at stake and it didn't really matter.  I see it as one of those defining moments in your life and there will always be another tournament.  Long story short I got to the hospital and the doctors wanted my wife to stay as long as possible to keep the baby in. We ended up staying there for like 3 weeks!! I stayed by her side the whole time and took off work for 3 months!! You gotta love the Family Leave Act!! I did get to play alot of poker during that time, but was a bit distracted and showed little results. Most importantly, the baby was born 6 weeks early premature, but grew and came home with us after a couple weeks and is now doing fantastic!! Scary stuff!! Now that was one exciting year! I will continue on next post...

Luckily my last couple days have at least stopped the bleeding.  I seem to be in a bit of a bad luck run, which I hate to think about because they seem to last longer the more you think about it. I haven't lost alot of money, but keep bubbling or finishing 2nd vs. a suckout when I do cash. Usually when this happens I try and watch my aggressiveness and how many hands I'm playing.  I can usually tell if I'm not getting very deep consistently over multiple tourneys, it's usually part my fault.

I usually like to check out the latest software available to help me keep stats and test strategies. I've heard for a while about  Pokerstove, which is like an odds calculator with the ability to insert a few variables and best part is free to download. I've been playing around with that for a while trying to use it's calculations and integrate it's results with my personal stats and calculations. I'm trying to plug the results into my formulas and its a pain in the rectal region coming up with big formulas on Excel. Anyways, it's fun to play with and like I said it's free.  I've also been trying to find a happy medium between mostly Absolute Poker and Cake. I get rakeback on both 30% AP and 33% Cake.  The players are bad on Cake, but I get reload bonuses with AP, which aren't deducted from AP's rakeback. I'm also really limit the number of multis I play to only those with overlay, rebuys, or satelite entries I've won. Hopefully, this will cut down my variance and help me get really good again at SNG's and make a steady profit. So far not too bad, but I spread out my bankroll too thin to really make any big moves yet. Well I just shoved with a Q2 and came up short, lol. Guess I can't blame luck there, oh well.  Gl all at the tables. Comments and questions appreciated. Donkeyherder

If you would like to check me out you can look me up on a few sites, pokerdb.com shows big tournament results. I play under "Donkeyherder"(Pokerstars),"Chipstacker2000"(FULLTILT), "donkeyherder2"(ULTIMATE BET), "d0nkeyherder"(ABSOLUTE POKER), and a few others. I've never had a single losing year.  I won a seat to the 2006 WSOP main event and cashed in the top 10% of the field of over 9000 players.  I've made 77 Final tables, including 11 1st's (50-1555 players). Most of the time you'll find me grinding out Sit-n-Gos.
