Poker - Back to Work

May 11th was my 1st post if your interseted in my donkey beginnings.

Well coming back to work after about 2-3 weeks off was definately not fun times, however, I am feeling pretty good. I gotten alot of things squared away and have played well since my last shot at this years WSOP earlier this month. So far I've been able to win back the $2,000 I lost in Vegas, mainly sticking to 10/20 6 handed limit cash games. After my successful run while playing in Yosemite, I decided to put a little more time into this particular type of game. It seems there's much more easy money in the cash games. The only problem with playing cash games is the huge swings you take.  Normally in a day I would win or lose $200-400 playing med-hi limit sit-n-go's, but since playing cash games I would say the swings would be more like $400-1000. At that rate you need a substantial bankroll to bail you out if you lose or drop down in stakes. Per hour I'm currently making $70 on a single 6 handed limit cash game, which is maybe double what I might take home playing a single SNG at a time. However, It's an extremely small sample size to base my results on and it's much harder for me to play more than 1 table playing cash games which are much more understanding your opponents vs. grinding out SNG's requires much less of that for me, especially since I have a ton of experience and can play them in my sleep.  So for now it's a wait and see. Another beneifit of cash games is you usually rack up more rakeback and player points.

My wife's off work for the next few months so now I am also more focused and have a little more time to play multi's. Since Yosemite I am up another $1,100 and have kept my losing days below $300, which for me is good. I would say If you can keep your worst losing days low by pulling out of bad games, dropping down in stakes after bad runs, and not letting big profits slide down the tubes by setting a limit. Sometimes I'll buy-in for $400 and run it up to $1200 and tell myself I'll play until I drop down under $1000 and freeroll it until I get to $1,500 or $2,000 or many times I get a good start and get up to $800 and then fall back down after hours of play to $500 and force myself to take a $100 prfit, because obv. things aren't going my way and walking away with any kind of profit keeps confidence levels up.

I haven't spoken too much of the stock market tracking I do, but it is extremely time consuming and I have been collecting data day-in and day-out for over 6 years and have a massive database which I breakdown every conceivable way.  The problem I facing lately is with the new baby my free time is extremely precious and I have a large enough sample size to start tightening my requirements. I am now only tracking stocks with a 750k avg daily volume (up from 500k) and am cutting out some of the slower moving stocks. Overall my adjustments will result in tracking about 40% fewer stocks and give me much needed extra time to research and track my poker play, esp. the cash games which I have little databased on my own.  I do have "poker tracker". Which is software which gives you alot of good gametime data on opposing players and aides to my own personal note taking, but when researching your own play is difficult to factor in many other important variables and doesn't let your break down their database anyway you want. I think it's great for people who just won't do the work, but not enough for those looking to make it big and take it to the next level.

For now I think I'll stop and eat some breakfast. I might be going surfing today with my bro at Huntington Beach, CA. I'm getting out of shape and desperately need the exercise so I can't wait to surf it up this summer. GL all at the tables, or stocks, or life, etc.  Questions and comments appreciated. Donkeyherder
